Two different films are parodied in this episode. The mad scientist and his hunchback assistant who bring the dead back to life using lightning as a power source is a parody of the 1931 film "Frankenstein". Meanwhile the location of the laboratory in an underground cavern where the scientist brings the dead back to life to commit crimes is a parody of the 1942 film serial "Gang Busters".
The title is a parody on the Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1967) catch phrase usually shouted by Judy Carne: Sock it to me!. In response she would be drenched with a couple of buckets of water for comic effect.
Obler, the man at the morgue, seems to be a tribute to Arch Obler, the writer-producer of Lights Out and other radio show thrillers. At one point, Obler's silhouette can be seen at the door as he eavesdrops. This alludes to Alfred Hitchcock Presents, the master of suspense.
This episode is a parody of the Gang Busters movie serial.
