For his guest appearance in this episode, Beck actually requested the writers add more jokes poking fun at him.
When Fry discovers a bag of ancient Olestra Chips, Bender eats one, causing him to literally "s*** bricks." Olestra was a fat substitute that was sold in many food items, most popularly in potato chips, starting in the mid-90s. Starting in 1996, an FDA-mandated health warning label was placed on all food items containing Olestra that read "This Product Contains Olestra. Olestra may cause abdominal cramping and loose stools," hence why Bender immediately loses control of his robo-bowels.
When Bender is writing a song, he's seen holding a piece of sheet music with the title "Nº5, by Bender". If you look at it closely, it reads the first part of Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth symphony, note for note.

The cast is chased through the streets of San Francisco. During the chase, a green Volkswagen-esqe hovercar keeps appearing. This is a sly reference to Bullitt (1968) in which a green Volkswagen shows up several times during the famous car chase. Also, the Camper-van the characters drive loses a hubcap which re-appears in the next scene, just like Det. Lt. Bullitt's car which loses a total of six hub-caps in the car chase.
