- Narrator: [Act One Opening Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble, small suitcase in hand, walking down a country road. He pauses to observe a sign that reads "Corona 13 miles"] This is a man who must keep moving, pursuing, pursued. He is not a man of solitude but often the friendless, open road is his only alternative to death by execution. Richard Kimble travels a lot by thumb, makes many a long, lonely hike between rides.
- Narrator: [Epilog Closing Narration. Viewers see a photo of Richard Kimble in a jail cell being passed among a crowd] The things a fugitive turns away from are sometimes evil, sometimes good and difficult to leave. Everything left behind is dangerous. There is no safety for him anywhere, but if he can keep moving, there's hope.
- Hanes McClure: I didn't even know who you was when I picked you up.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: We have that in common.
