The Act 2, Scene 2 title card reads, "I Think That Smell is Grease Paint." This is a reference to the 1964 musical "The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd" by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley.
The title is a comic parody of the play cycle "Mourning Becomes Electra" written by American playwright Eugene O'Neill, which premiered in 1932.
The backstage and crew members at the end of the episode would obviously have been shot in the backstage area of the Paramount Studios where the series was filmed.
In this episode, Martin's (John Mahoney) eyesight has deteriorated to the point where he can't even tell the difference between a coffee cup and a cream server at the Café Nervosa . As a result, he buys glasses. In the following episode (To Thine Old Self Be True (2000)), several scenes occur in which Martin is comfortably reading both the newspaper and the "Seattle SEX-PRESS" without glasses.
