A bit silly.

"Four Star Playhouse" is an excellent 1950s show and I normally love watching re-runs of these old shows which are available for free from archive.org. However, "One Forty-Two" is an episode which just didn't work for me and seemed a bit silly.

When the episode begins, the dictator (Akim Tamiroff) of some crappy nation orders a priest (Dick Powell) to come see him. It seems that the Colonel has heard some rumor about his death coming at 1:42 this afternoon and he was hoping the Priest could tell him what he knows about this. Well, it seems that some of the Colonel's henchmen recently murdered 142 innocent people and as a result, everyone in his land is now somehow wishing that the Colonel will die...and the Colonel seems a bit worried it MIGHT come true.

Overall, the show comes off as preachy and rather difficult to believe...VERY difficult actually. The writing just isn't up to snuff in this one and the results are both weird and a bit embarrassing to watch.
