The character of Doyle Hobbs, played once again by Roger Smith, was first seen in season 2: Betty, Girl Engineer (1956).
When Doyle Hobbs recognizes Betty at the diner, he comments on the fact that her hair is shorter than the last time he saw her, which was in season 2: Betty, Girl Engineer (1956). Elinor Donahue did, in fact, have longer hair in season 2, which was always styled in a ponytail. Prior to season 4, she cut her hair, i.e. no more ponytail, much to the chagrin of the show's producers. Eventually, the ponytail would return, only this time it would be a so-called fall neatly and seamlessly attached to the real hair, which was a good compromise between the producers and Elinor Donahue. She so liked the wig attachment that she kept it for years after the show ceased production.
The part of Betty's friend Marge is played by Barbara Eden who would go on to become famous as the female lead in the sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie" opposite Larry Hagman (who would go on to international fame as J.R. Ewing in the prime time soap, "Dallas").
Elinor Donahue and Barbara Eden would later appear on The Andy Griffith Show (1960)
Barbara Eden appears as Betty's rival Marge in this episode. Ironically, when Barbara went on to star in "I Dream of Jeannie" five years later, the house that Jeannie & Tony lived in was the exact same house where Betty Anderson lived with her family on "Father Knows Best".
The house was originally built as the home of Blondie & Dagwood Bumstead, for the series of popular movies about that comic strip couple. As a result, the entire faux neighborhood at Columbia Ranch, where the house was located, was known as "Blondie Street". In between "Father Knows Best" and "I Dream of Jeannie", the same house served as home to Mr Wilson, the grouchy neighbor of "Dennis the Menace".
