Strangely cast...but still very good.

The casting of the mafia leaders in "The Executioners" (part 1 and 2) is very unusual. First, the godfather is played by Walter Pidgeon--one of the last men you'd ever expect to be playing such a cold and evil man. Second, his close associate is played by Telly Savalas...a guy who could easily play a mobster. But, oddly, Savalas plays the 'nice' gangster...and Pidgeon the more evil and murderous one!! Talk about playing against type!!

In "The Executioners: Parts 1 and 2", the government is trying to disrupt the leadership of the Cosa Nostra....with little success. Much of this is because all the mobsters plead the 5th and say nothing in court. But most is that the mob is using a hot-shot young assassin to get rid of any witnesses or weak members of the inner circle.

Overall, the two episodes come off almost like a movie as opposed to an installment of a television show. This is not a bad thing at all....and makes for a memorable experience.

By the way, while it didn't harm the episode at all, there is a scene where some bullets are identified as belonging to a 9mm. This is NOT true, as the shells are much, much longer (i.e., with more powder) and appear to be 38 special bullets.
