The family have invited all their friends to the annual big feast on the farm. It is the custom to raise the Swedish flag on this holiday. Seeing the height of the flagpole, Emil and his little sister Ida wonder how far they could see from up there. To find out, Emil ties Ida to the ropes and pulls her up to the top. Some of arriving guests are short sighted and cannot clearly see the little girl in her red and white dress, but instead start to ask why the (red and white) Danish flag has been raised on this day on a Swedish farm. When Emil's parents see what Emil has done this time, they lock him into the customary tool-shed as punishment. Emil, who is getting hungry, manages to escape to the adjoining shed which is used to store food. There he eats as much of the delicacies as he can and then falls asleep. When his parents come to release him from his prison, they find the tool-shed empty. There is much worry what has happened to him and a great search is started. When Emil is eventually found, everybody is so relieved, that he is immediately forgiven for eating all the food in the larder.
