The first General Lee, aka "Lee1" was rescued from the Georgia woods, on Sunday, August 12th, 2001 by Gary Schneider and Travis Bell. In 2005 the car began an intensive restoration. Sunday, November 11th, 2006, 29 years to the day after it made the premier General Lee jump, John Schneider unveiled the fully restored car to a small group of fans at Oxford College in Oxford Georgia. The car was rolled out in front of Seney Hall, the very spot the jump successfully took place. In 2012, "Lee 1" was purchased for $110,000 by pro golfer Bubba Watson at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction.
The General Lee used to jump Rosco in the final chase scene was the first General Lee ever built, named Lee1. Though there is a jump in the opening scene, the jump of Lee1 was done first. The successful jump was filmed on Saturday, November 11th, 1978 on the campus of Oxford College. After the jump, the car was repainted as a wrecked race car for episode #4 "Repo Men".
Boss Hogg's first name is Jefferson Davis. Confederacy president Jefferson Davis --- later imprisoned and tried for treason --- worked with General Robert E. Lee ("General Lee") during the Civil War.
When John Schneider showed up for his audition as Bo Duke, he did so in a dilapidated pick-up truck, with a week's worth of beard growth and in a white T-shirt and overalls. He had a cigarette pack rolled up in his T-shirt sleeve and was also carrying a can of beer. He was hired on the spot.
