More action-packed than most, there's a number of unexpected twists and turns in this episode. The shoot-out at the house, however, appears none too convincing-- only four cops sent to tangle with a known desperado holed up in a house! Otherwise, some nice realistic touches, such as the long wait in the motel room indicating how much police work is both boring and fruitless. Good use again of ordinary looking actors going about ordinary pursuits, especially Harper Goff as model train enthusiast, who not only doesn't look like a professional actor, but provides some unforced humor. Also, good off-beat (for Dragnet) camera angles down the long corridors work to heighten visual interest, although the final encounter appears unusually stagey. I can't help wondering whether Hoffman, the robber, actually did turn up at police headquarters to cadge money. If so, it only confirms again how much stranger truth is than fiction.
