When Dr. Mike's family arrives in town Marjorie announces that she chose her clothing because Amelia Bloomer was championing this new style of dress. While Amelia Bloomer did advocate what she called "Reform Dress" or a "Turkish Costume" (often referred to by others as the Bloomer Costume) in her paper "The Lily", this occurred in 1850. While many reformers did adopt this way of dressing most all had discarded it and returned to wearing long skirts by 1855. The show is set 20 years after all this occurred. Many women were still attempting to find a way to dress that avoided the heavy petticoats, but they did not return to the much maligned Bloomer.
Dr Cook never even washed his hands before taking the suturing needle from Dr Mike.
