Could have been great

Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Diagnosis Murder for sure, so I don't speak lightly when being critical of a Diagnosis Murder episode. But really I must say that I was incredibly disappointed by Write, She Murdered. Here the writers had a very creative opportunity to skew or parody or lampoon Murder, She Wrote. Secondly you have Adam West, yes, the Adam West guest starring (and I wonder why he didn't get "Special Guest Star" billing). Thirdly you had Shelley "Cheers" Long, who got Special Guest Star billing over Adam West.

But really, the episode was way too wordy for its own good. I lost interest and just wanted the episode to end please.

A brilliant Shelley Long

It took me absolutely ages to get this episode but was it worth it. Diagnosis Murder as most people know is a very professionally done murder mystery and suspense and of course Dick Van Dyke is an excellent anchor man around which everybody revolves. In this episode Shelley Long alias Kate Ludow a writer suffering from writers block decides to commit the perfect murder then follow Mark Sloane around and see how he investigates the crime and write a book based on her observations. Miss Long was exceptional extremely funny in places and played her character as only she can with style. The way Miss Long speaks which sounds like she has a plum in her mouth I find absolutely fascinating and when she rolls those eyes of hers brilliant. Watch it if you get a chance on the re runs because I think you will thoroughly enjoy it.

What a Waste

I Love Diagnosis Murder but this was one of the worst episodes I've seen.. For being a Season 6 Episode, I was expecting more. But this was a let down.

Warning: Spoilers
Two one note actors in this episode: Adam West (Bruce Blazer) and Shelly Long (Kay Ludlow). Kay has hit a dry patch and decides if she murders her agent and follows Mark around as he tries to solve the case, she will get a book out of the experience. Long dominates this episode with so much mugging, she quickly becomes a boor and you really want Mark to solve this one and put her away. West doesn't have much to do but knows he is there to be "Bruce Wayne" and turns in a droll performance that is great. Richard Herd as Archie Mullen, another writer on the trail turns in a wonderful performance: a great character actor who deserves more attention. And Victoria Rowell gets to have some fun as Long's literary invention, Danielle Slade, who discusses the case with her as the plot progresses. Long drops red herrings all over the place as she tries to cover her tracks and misdirect the investigation. This series has had a lot of fun on various episodes by having well- known actors kid themselves: see "Discards" with Barbara Bain, Robert Culp, Patrick Macnee, and Robert Vaughn :or "Alienated" with Walter Koenig, Will Wheaton, George Takei, and Majel Barrett. This one tries for the tongue in cheek but ends up just giving the audience a raspberry.
