This episode marks the last appearance by series co-star Joseph Kearns as George Wilson, the Mitchells' next door neighbor. (It is somewhat ironically entitled "The Man Next Door.") Kearns died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage in February, 1962. Gloria Henry, who played Alice Mitchell, and Jeannie Russell, who played Margaret Wade, speculated during a co-interview on the new DVD set that Kearns' sudden death may have been caused by his attempt to lose weight quickly by placing himself on an all-liquid diet.
This episode is the last of four which feature Harold Stevens Hopper, aka Hal Hopper, the maternal uncle of Jay Waverley North; Hopper was married to North's mother's sister, Marie Elizabeth Cotton. This aunt and uncle are the adults who managed North while he worked on Dennis the Menace. He does not speak fondly of them.
