Some say the later episodes are a disservice to the classic shorts with Joseph Kearns. Yet it's hard to get funnier than Edgar Buchanan and Gale Gordon. Buchanan was one of the finest character actors ever. He gave so many great performances. Shame his talents were wasted on the inane Petticoat Junction. Buchanan could play anything. No judge or attorney role for Buchanan this time. Yet eccentrics and loners are up his alley too. This series found ways to get use out of costumes. Jay North plays off Buchanan well. Gordon can carry the episodes. Mr. Wilson goes to great lengths to get his articles. The writing business isn't an easy one. John Wilson reminds us every movie.
