Can't Have Summer Without A Picnic
This isn't as memorable at the picnic discussion in She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. Still there's great tater and chicken talk. And grocery stores provide great comedic material. Plus it's hard not to enjoy Willard Waterman in any performance. This is a celebration of Jazz too. Charles Hale is a welcome addition to these movies. The music brings to mind an Andy Griffith episode. Mr. Brady is obnoxious as usual. It's good to see competition celebrated. Playing without winners and losers is pointless. Cigar smoking takes a beating. And overbearing parents are a problem in any context. The comedic timing makes this a masterpiece along with the life lessons.
