- A college law professor asks the Prestons to defend a campus fascist leader accused of ordering the beating of a student who took issue with his speech. The professor and both Prestons despise the defendant's beliefs, but feel he must be represented in court.—rbecker28
- Jack Powers is making a speech to a crowd at his university advocating the establishment of a tolitarian state. While he is speaking, his two bodyguards move in on a student heckler and beat him senseless. Powers is charged with criminal assault on the grounds that he allegedly directed his bodyguards to attack the student. The Prestons are hired to represent Powers by one of his professors who feels Powers has the right to say what he wants even though the professor disagrees with him. Although he doesn't want to be represented by people who he thinks are undermining society, Powers reconsiders after the Prestons show him how little he knows about legal strategy. Nevertheless,Powers only has contempt for the Prestons and, after he witnesses one of their clients terminate their relationship because they are representing Powers, he calls the Prestons fools. At trial, all the witnesses admit they did not hear Powers tell the bodyguards to attack the student - except for the bodyguards who have been given plea deals. The court is reconvened in the injured student's hospital room and the incident is re-enacted. The injured student is forced to admit that Powers never ordered the bodyguards to attack him. Powers is found not guilty and humbly thanks everyone for being fair to him.
