While in a mission to locate the German forces, Lt. Hanley and his two-man squad stumble upon a German machine gun nest. One soldier is killed, Lt. Hanley is wounded but Caje destroys the nest and rescue Hanley. While fleeing, they encounter the French Claude riding a wagon with horse and Caje asks for help. The man discloses that belongs to the French Resistance and brings them to the castle where he lives. Soon Caje realizes that the place is occupied by the Germans but Claude takes them to an empty wing. They see that Hanley needs medical treatment and Claude summons Countess De Roy, who was a nurse in the past before marrying the wealthy noble Count De Roy. She accepts to help them under the condition that they would like the caste asap. But Hanley learns that the spot will be the German HQ that he was looking for and forces the Countess to cross her civilian line.
"Finest Hour" is a great episode of "Combat!", with a moral conflict of the leading characters. The performances are top-notch with great participation of Luise Rainer. Her attitude leads to a tragedy in the end, but it might have been the best conclusion for the fate of her husband and his castle. My vote is eight.
