While Stuart Whitman was good in the lead in the TV show "Cimarron Strip", he was hampered by poor support. In other words, the supporting characters seen regularly on the show were incredibly bland and underwritten. MacGregor was essentially a Scottish stereotype with no other personality traits, Francis was a newspaper reporter with no other personality traits and, finally, Dulcey was a pretty young lady with a soft heart...and no other personality traits! As a result, if any episode features them in a leading role, it's doomed from the onset...which is the case with "Whitey".
When the story begins, a robbery by a gang goes wrong and one of the gang members is captured. Soon, inexplicably, the Marshall allows Dulcey to hang around the jail and she soon thinks this young crook is a sweet thing in need of her support! As I watched him, I just thought the guy was a whiney jerk. Eventually, the whiney jerk does bad things...which is no surprise since he was caught committing a robbery! There's certainly more to it than this, including the sweet thing taking Dulcey prisoner...but by this point I was just rooting for him to off her and get rid of this annoying and unrealistic character.
To say I didn't like this episode is pretty much on the mark. It could have been better but relying so much on Dulcey and her thinking only with her heart is a losing idea if you want a good episode.
