  Rose : It's a beginning Mr. Bodie. You carry my wood; open my door. Then a familiarity has been established. It leads to the more unpleasant advanced stages. I'm very much in love with my husband and the attention of other men doesn't flatter me at all.

  Cheyenne Bodie : Then in the future I'll make it a point to pay you as little mind as possible.

  Rose : I'd appreciate it. In fact, I wish you wouldn't speak to me at all. Except in the presence of my husband.

  Cheyenne Bodie : Yes ma'am.

• Cheyenne Bodie : Why do you hate criminals so much?

  Granger Ward : Because I hate stupidity. Every man who's appeared before me reeked of stupidity. Obvious and trapped in some perfectly moronic maneuver.

  Cheyenne Bodie : Sounds like you hate 'em more for being stupid than for being criminals.

  Granger Ward : [laughs]  I guess there's a small grain of truth in that. I admire competence in any field.

• Cheyenne Bodie : You don't have anybody to compare me with. Marriage is more than just finding a man that you like the looks of or that you don't mind being touched by. Marriage is for a mighty long time and unless you figure it that way, there's no sense in going into it to begin with. Marriage calls for a lot of thought.

  Lilac : You once said that the word 'friend' meant a lot to you. Could you love me as a friend?

  Cheyenne Bodie : Could I? I do! Why if it hadn't been for you I might not be alive now.

• Cheyenne Bodie : You're a smart man Judge. But you made a mistake. You think everybody else is a fool! No fun being clever like you are is it Judge less somebody knows about it. So you had to tell me. Just a little but it turned out to be a little bit too much.
