Funny start to the show.

Chance itself plays a hand in the meeting of two people. The shy Alison Little plans on meeting up with a long lost relative, at the same time Tom chance is in the hotel to meet his blind date, Alison Hughes. A slight error meets that Tom meets shy Alison, and the two hit it off. Tom is well connected, accident prone and wonderfully eccentric, lives his life by chance, totally at odds with Librarian Alison, who is shy, softly spoken and quiet. The French restaurant scene was cringeworthy, well performed.

I'd forgotten all about this little gem, but it is well worth a look. It is all about Callow the first episode, he is wonderfully zany, with his wild curly hair and crazy looking eyes. His way of speaking is so quirky too, some slick dialogue, what a diverse performer he's been over the years, a wonderful talent. Blethyn was a much quieter entity back in the day, terribly sweet, Alison would develop as a character as the show went on. She definitely had a glint in the eye though.

Chance in a Million rather went under the radar when it was originally broadcast.

Director Michael Mills was also behind Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Both shows share some DNA because of him.

Simon Callow plays Tom Chance. A man who realised a long time ago that disaster follows him.

In the opening episode. Tom goes to a hotel to meet a blind date. In a mix up he ends up with shy librarian Alison Hughes (Brenda Blethyn) who was expecting to meet her long lost cousin.

Alison finds out just how accident prone Tom can be. He really is a chance in a million.

This was a funny and cleverly written first episode with a quirky performance from Callow. An appealing and somewhat sexy turn from Brenda Blethyn who is not quiet the plain Jane she makes out to be.
