Excellent episode.
This was William Daniels only appearance on the series, and he's quite good. He plays Corey, an electronics guru, sort of in the tradition of Barney on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE --only he got caught and sent to prison. Now that he's out, the underworld powers want him back behind bars. Just what does he know?
Daniels had recently appeared in the popular movie 1776 as John Adams, of course always remembered for ST. ELSEWHERE, and true, it's kind of strange to see him in a role as a jail bird! Familiar actress Lynette Mettey plays his wife, Laura, who happens to be a cop, hiring Cannon to right a terrible wrong. Lynette is best remembered for playing nurses on MASH, though she became more famous as a voice actress, narrating the Johnson & Johnson tv commercials.
This is also an original story, shedding light on a police woman, for a change, and Lynette Mettey is a good match with William Daniels. Laura and Cannon make a good team. Co-starring is veteran actress Louise Troy and Lindon Chiles, as husband and wife, who figure prominently in the case. Look for tough guy Alex Rocco as a hitman. The perfect choice.
Troy is best known for her many appearances on HOGANS HEROES, this time in a more serious role.
For cult tv fans, we get a glimpse of the famous Bronson Caves in Hollywood, the gateway to the Bat Cave in the BATMAN tv series. Charles S. Dubin did a fine job with this cast; everyone shines. He was also directing HAWAII FIVE O at the time, long associated with MASH and holding the record for directing the most episodes. Great trivia question.
The ending is as exciting as it it poignant, credit Louise Troy. SEASON 2 EPISODE 11 CBS/Paramount dvd box set No. 1 of 2. 3 dvds per box.
