Poison Ivy
safenoe19 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Twenty years after Love and the Older Man debuted, we had Poison Ivy starring Drew "E. T." Barrymore and Tom Skerritt. Anyway, I wonder to what extent, and it's a stretch maybe, Poison Ivy was inspired by Love and the Older Man, where Marcia has a crush on Dr Vogel, a dentist who is married (happily we assume).

I'm not sure what inspired the writers of The Brady Bunch to pen this episode, but whilst it seemed innocent at the time, it's quite dark upon reflection, and I don't know, like there's a class issue here because would Marcia have been attracted to an adult sanitation worker or what init.

A truly classic episode and story
sjmills111 February 2024
It's one of those episodes that always comes up when people talk about The Brady Bunch. That's what makes this a classic, memorable episode. The story of a girl falling in love with an older man is nothing new, as it had been used hundreds of times before on TV, in movies, plays, and books. It's hardly creepy. One highlight is the many daydreams Marcia has about what it would be like to be married to her dreamboat dentist, especially the one featuring the baby blue dentist chair in their living room. Who wouldn't love to have that?! Marcia looks especially beautiful and wears some very attractive outfits. The wardrobe department outdid itself this time.

Jan delivers one of her classic lines when informing Marcia that the dentist is married. Eve always had the best lines and knew how to deliver them effectively.

THE DENTIST SOAP OPERA EPISODE!
tcchelsey24 November 2023
Martin Ragaway wrote this story, and a few others for the show, who did a ton of material for Red Skelton and Dean Martin. The only difference here, a lot more fantasy than comedy, but it works.

It's all about a young and handsome dentist, played by character actor Don Reid. He needs a babysitter, but theres a communication breakdown -- and patient Marcia believes he wants a date? A teen LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE situation.

With a little re-working, this could have been a story about two adults in a romantic mess.

There's a fantasy slash soap opera sequence, a first for the series, and you know the REAL truth is going to come out. Bummer day for Marcia.

Good side story with the guys working on a cool go-cart --which finally, finally starts up. In a way, the episode separates the guys from the girls; romance versus high speed adventure, and watch Alice almost get run down by the go-cart.

By the way, if Don Reid looks familiar, he was a popular actor in the 70s and 80s, later appearing in soap operas.

I'd give it a 9 for sentimental value and, especially, all of us forever Marcia fans. From SEASON 4 remastered color ABC/Paramount dvd box set.

Marcia And The Dentist

Marcia has a crush on her new young dentist Dr Vogel.

One of the weaker episodes. Dr Vogel wants Marcia to babysit for him but there is a mix up and she thinks it is a date. There is some fantasy scenes of Marcia being married to Dr Vogel but they are not very funny. The boys have a sub plot of a making a motorized go cart. Only laugh is at the end when it finally works.
