- Darrin is worried about his friend Kermit falling for Samantha's friend Gertrude since he is not sure if she's a witch.
- Gertrude is Samantha's slightly klutzy, Plain Jane, self-effacing friend who wants a boyfriend and eventually get married. To help her, Samantha wants Darrin to set her up with one of his friends, most specifically his art department co-worker, Kermit. Darrin doesn't think Kermit is in the market for a wife or even a steady girlfriend as he is known to play the field, but Darrin asks him anyway. When Kermit and Gertrude hit it off immediately, Darrin is convinced that Gertrude is a witch who cast a spell over Kermit if only because a Kermit/Gertrude match is not obvious on the surface. Samantha assures Darrin that love is far more powerful than any witch's spell but when Kermit and Gertrude become more serious in their relationship, Darrin does whatever he can to steer Kermit away from Gertrude. Wanting happiness for her friend, Samantha, in turn, does whatever she can to thwart Darrin's actions.—Huggo
- Samantha is unusually insistent that Darrin help find a bachelor from work with whom to match up a single friend, Gertrude. A handsome bachelor, Kermit, comes over for dinner and meets Gertrude and falls for her, with some help from Samantha. Darrin spends most of the episode fruitlessly asking Samantha if the tall, shy, unconventionally appealing, fey Gertrude is a witch, and trying to warn off Kermit. Samantha witchily rids the playing field of an old competitor for Kermit's attention, Susan, and Darrin's warnings fall by the wayside. However, interestingly, neither Darrin (nor the audience) ever really finds out if Gertrude is something other than 100% mortal. Samantha wins this war of the sexes.—Rms125a@hotmail.com / Robert Sieger
