In the 70's, "Disaster" films were all the rage, and though the genre was starting to, uh, flame out by 1978, BSG decided to try and grab a few of its remaining crumbs with "Fire in Space". I know what you're thinking, oh ye who passed 4th grade science with a C minus. "But isn't that impossible?". Well, rest assured that the always scientifically accurate BSG doesn't disappoint here. The fire isn't actually in space. It's aboard the Galactica.
Misleading titles aside, this is a very middling episode. I give them credit for trying something a bit different here. And it was nice to see someone other than Apollo and/or Starbuck be front and center (in this case Boomer). But there's little of the "Zap!", "Pow" space opera fun of the series at its best, and the corny melodrama we do get is about as compelling as a toothpaste commercial.
