The casting director for Batman Forever (1997) saw this episode and thought False Face looked an awful lot like Tommy Lee Jones and was convinced he would make a good Two-Face.
The episode, as originally planned, was to feature actor Malachi Throne in a series of make-ups. Because of budgetary concerns, Throne played the role in a plastic mask, with other actors playing the disguised False-Face throughout. Because he felt that, as a result of the mask, there was no real acting on his part, he asked that his name be removed from the credits. This was done, with a question mark ("?") substituting where Throne's name would normally be, until the final credits of the second episode ("Holy Rat Race"), when his full name was shown.
False-Face is often assumed to be a villain created for the TV series. He actually first appeared in issue #113 of the Batman comic book. It was his only comic book appearance.
Although actor Malachi Throne was not identified as the actor playing False Face until the credits of the second part of this episode, and although False Face's real countenance was never revealed (usually hidden behind a plastic mask), Throne does appear without the mask, albeit sporting a mustache, in the scene where he poses as one of the armored car guards.
Portions of this episode...particularly the "Abandoned Bioscope Studios" scenes are filmed on the Desilu backlot. The set for Gomer Pyle USMC and downtown Mayberry can clearly be seen. NOTE: This occurs in part 2 of this episode.
