This featured the first of the many "head-out-the-window" cameo appearances that would become a hallmark on Batman (1966) during its first two seasons. A well-known celebrity would stick their head out the window as Batman and Robin were climbing up the side of a building and exchange a few lines of dialogue with them. In this first case, the cameo was Jerry Lewis. Other celebrities would include Art Linkletter, Sammy Davis Jr., syndicated newspaper columnist "Suzy Knickerbocker" (Aileen Mehle), Van Williams and Bruce Lee (as the Green Hornet and Kato), and, on Christmas week of 1966, Santa Claus (in the person of Andy Devine).
Roddy McDowall along with Anne Baxter (Zelda the Great) are the only 2 actors to be arrested by both Batman and Lt. Columbo.
Roddy McDowall would later perform the voice of the Mad Hatter in several animated series including Batman: The Animated Series (1992), The New Batman Adventures (1997), and Superman: The Animated Series (1996). McDowell also read the novelization of Batman (1989) for the Audio Book version.
One of Bookworm's literary influenced clues referenced the Sherlock Holmes book A Study In Scarlet. Sherlock Holmes has long been acknowledged as an inspiration for the Batman character.
