"Ice Spy" was the third outing for the cold hearted Mister Freeze, this time with beloved Eli Wallach in place of George Sanders and Otto Preminger, in what turned out to be his last appearance on the series (while the first pair of two parters were scripted by Max Hodge, this one came from the pen of Charles Hoffman). No longer interested in personal revenge against Batman, the shivering slimeball holds up in an iceberg in Gotham Harbor, before switching to a hideout underneath a skating rink owned by Bruce Wayne. For the first time, he has a willing female accomplice in world famous ice skating star Glacia Glaze (Leslie Parrish), and captures the renowned Professor Isaacson (Elisha Cook) to learn his secret formula in creating a thermodynamic ice ray gun. The cliffhanger finds the Dynamic Duo set to be vaporized to become part of Bruce Wayne's ice rink. The oddest Batclimb cameo comes courtesy of Carpet King, a Los Angeles businessman (real name Cyril Lord) who sold some merchandise to producer William Dozier, and received this on screen plug in lieu of payment! Leslie Parrish first appeared as the glamorous Dawn Robbins in "The Penguin's a Jinx," while playing the ship's captain was veteran John Archer, from "When the Rat's Away the Mice Will Play." A tiny part as showgirl Carol features Schuyler Aubrey, who would later enjoy a larger role as Princess Primrose opposite Milton Berle in "Louie, the Lilac."

Good But Not Great Two-Parter

The final Mr Freeze two-parter in the series.
This 1966 Batman series was just not capable of doing a bad episode but I am sorry to report that this final Mr Freeze two-parter was my least favourite Freeze show of the series. It is mainly part two that I have a bit of an issue with as very eventful things start to happen but the show's budget is clearly not up to the challenge of filming the script in a convincing way.
But there are nice moments such as Commissioner Gordon giving viewers a welcome hint that Batgirl is on the way next season.
This might be the end of Mr Freeze but Batman-studio 20th Century Fox did a more spaced out semi-tribute to the character with the 1968 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea episode titled "Flaming Ice".

A fine ending to the Second Season

"Ice Spy" is one of the last batch of Season Season episodes, and like the others, a good one.
Eli Wallach is no George Sanders or Otto Preminger; he brings in his own unique charms, as the other two Mr. Freezes did. And like Mr. Preminger, Mr. Wallach took on the role in part because of his children. While Mr. Sanders was an old-time Hollywood actor, and Mr. Preminger a director, Mr. Wallach is a more modern New York actor, and brings his own take on the role.
While the episode is a little so-so plot wise, it benefits from an above- average cast. Not only do we have Mr. Wallach, but H.M. Wynant (a friend of mine) as Frosty, and Leslie Parrish, who makes her second appearance in the series!
More to the point, the episode is a fine way to end a season that began on such weak footing with the Archer episode. Some of the episodes during fall 1966 seemed to go badly, but things seemed to improve once 1967 began. This episode is proof of this.
