The character of Shame came about because when the Batman producers asked Cliff Roberson what kind of villain he'd like to play, he said it might be fun to play a very dumb cowboy who took himself very seriously.
Episode writer Stanley Ralph Ross named the character Andy after his own young son. Ross also credited Andy with helping come up with part of the solution to the cliffhanger.
The signs on the bat-poles that read "Bruce" and "Dick", had disappeared a few episodes earlier, but suddenly returned this episode. But upon their return, the plate with the buttons for the reverse compressed steam bat-poles that were normally left on the wall next to Batman's bat-pole, vanished.
The episode concludes with the narrator inviting viewers to return tomorrow, "Shame time, Shame channel."
