T.P. McKenna had to turn down a part in Doctor Zhivago (1965) because he had signed the contract for this episode.
Much of the action takes place in and around a department store elevator. Art director Harry Pottle had only one lift available to use at the studio, and it only went up one floor. Therefore, to give the impression of a multi-storey department store, the set surrounding the elevator had to be carefully re-dressed for each landing. Despite this, during the opening sequence, a large Bugs Bunny figure is clearly visible on two 'different' floors.
Mrs Peel remarks that the dresser for the china department can't distinguish between "Old Bates and Royal Crichton" - a reference to John Bates (Diana Rigg's costumier) and Charles Crichton, who directed this episode.
In the scene where Mrs. Peel is arranging toys in the toy department, two Dalek toys from Doctor Who (1963) are clearly visible. One is on the pegboard and the other is on the table. Diana Rigg would later guest star in The Crimson Horror (2013).
