Howard Sprague does his comedy routine on TV station WASG. The last three letters of the call sign are Andy Griffith's initials: Andrew Samuel Griffith.
This episode follows the saying (and title of the Thomas Wolfe novel) "You Can't Go Home Again" when someone writes a book (or in this case, tells jokes) about locals in their small town, and are no longer welcome.
The television cameras on Colonel Tim's Talent Time have CBS logos on them. CBS was the national network that produced the Griffith show.
When Andy begins to tell Opie Howard's joke about the "farmer and his...," Aunt Bee admonishes him immediately before he can finish. Andy understands her without having to come out and say that it was NOT about the farmers daughter, but his cow. Since medieval times "farmer's daughter" jokes were code for the filthiest humor.
In the episode "Aunt Bee on TV" from Season 6, Bee wins a color console television set to replace their old black and white cabinet model. It would disappear in the very next episode, but will return sporadically in episodes with the family watching color television shows. Except this episode, where they miraculously watch color on the old black and white set.
