This episode includes the performances of four songs, including three that feature the music of the bluegrass band, The Dillards, as the Darling boys. Andy Griffith joins on guitar in three of the songs: "Dueling Banjos," "Doug's Tune," "Old Dan Tucker" and "Low and Lonely."
An episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show", loosely following this same plot line and also featuring Denver Pyle, aired two weeks after this one. Both shows came from the same studio and had significant cross-over by supporting actors.
In this episode, The Dillards play "Feudin' Banjos (Dueling Banjos)," the first wide-scale airing of the 1955 composition by "Guitar Boogie" Arthur Smith.
The Dillards, an established bluegrass band featuring Doug Dillard, Rodney Dillard and other members, reprised their roles as the Darlings in The Andy Griffith Show multiple times from 1963 to 1966.
This episode marks the only time the Darling boys appear without their sister, Charlene (Maggie Peterson).
