Perfecting Justice
claudio_carvalho10 September 2014
Four bullies come to Trinity to sell Protection and they stay at the boarding house where Caleb and Dr. Matt Crower live. Caleb witnesses four man wearing masks of pig killing a local, drowning him in his bathtub. People believe that the strangers are working for Sheriff Lucas Buck that feels affected in his reputation. He meets Barrett and Lowell Stokes, Earl McKeever and Just Eddie at the boarding house porch and has a conversation with them. Soon Sheriff Buck decides to bring his own justice to Trinity.

"Strong Arm of the Law" is one of the best episodes of "American Gothic" so far and the first time that I cheer for the Sheriff Lucas Buck. His sense of justice is creepy and the conclusion is a ripoff of "Mad Max". My vote is nine.

Four Northern thugs pick the wrong town to terrorise
Tweekums3 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens Caleb and his friend Boone sneak up to a house and peek through a window; they see more than they bargained… a group of men in pig masks drowning a man in a bath. It turns out they are four Northerners who think they can extort money from the good folks of Trinity. Many people assume they must be working with Sheriff Buck but he has nothing to do with it and they soon start to learn doing things in Trinity without the sheriff's blessing is not a wise move. They are staying at the same boarding house as Caleb and he discovers their cache of ill-gotten gains; they try to frighten him but it is they who get a scare.

This was another impressive episode; and probably the first where one sides with Sheriff Buck… even if his methods are rather extreme. The four thugs are suitably unpleasant; one might wonder why people didn't group together to confront them but one has to remember everybody thought they were working for the sheriff; even his own deputy who was assaulted by them. The cast does a solid job; Gary Cole, in particular, is on top form as Sheriff Buck; he is at his most menacing as he deals with the thugs; especially the final scene that nicely mirrors the end of the original 'Mad Max' film.
