STRANGE LADY, STRANGE CASE FOR JEFF
tcchelsey15 January 2024
A bit of European intrigue in this story, which takes Jeff all the way to a mysterious chateau in France from Hollywood. He's been hired by Gilbert Cannon (played by veteran actor Donald Woods), former fiancee of a beautiful and wealthy lady called Jennifer (played by Claire Griswold) who lost both her husband and brother within two years.

There's also another problem. Once Cannon joins Jeff at the chateau, they both discover Jennifer is engaged to marry the "questionable" son of Madame de Marivaux (Lili Valenty), thought to have owned the chateau, but apparently just staying there.

Can you spot the real deal villain?

There's enough suspicion to go around in this neat mystery, as well as thunder and lighting during the day and night! Exceptionally written by Robert C. Dennis, lead writer for ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS and PERRY MASON, later many cop shows to his credit.

Top direction by actor Marc Lawrence, who also headed western tv episodes at Warner Brothers. It would have been ideal if Lawrence, known for playing gangsters, made a gag appearance.

Good acting on the part of Claire Griswold, wife of director Sydney Pollack, also distinguished Polish actress Lily Valenty. Prior to this episode, Woods starred in William Castle's cult film, 13 GHOSTS.

A good old fashioned mystery. 10 Stars. SEASON 4 EPISODE 25.
