A must-see Peruvian film - to rare to be missed !
nini-2018 July 2006
LA PRUEBA (THE TRIAL) is a wonderful picture talking about family bounds and love of the land. In her first film, Judith Velez shows her country as it has never been done before: a country full of contrast, with magnificent landscapes but still a place where living is not easy... You should go and watch this Peruvian film ! to rare to be missed !!! Having lived abroad for some years, Miranda returns to her picturesque hometown of Arequipa (Peru) to search for her long-lost father Ignacio. With her brother Tomas badly in need for a bone marrow transplant and likely to get a good match with Ignaçio, Miranda is particularly motivated to sniffing down the trail to his whereabouts. In Arequipa, she forms an unlikely partnership with hydraulic engineer and dam expert Saùl (Pietro Sibille - "Dias de Santiago"), who drives her far into the Andean countryside where clues indicate Ignaçio may be hiding...

A very good and correct film

"La Prueba"( The Trial) a film by Judith Vélez represent a new wave of peruvian movie directors. The Trial is about a young woman's journey to the peruvian highland(Arequipa), Miranda must find her long time-fugitive father due to her terminally ill brother who desesperately needs a blood transfusion from him.In the road she encounters with Saúl(Days of Santiago's Pietro Sibille) an hidraulic engineer who helps her to find her father. "La Prueba" is the first feature film from Judith Vélez. Despite some flaws like the drama-less script and some over-used sketches(like the vision of andean villagers), Vélez presents us a correct film with images which generate interest and a script which shows us powerful and accurate dialogues(like those between Miranda and her father). This film successfully explores a conflictive father-daughter relationship and counts with a very good cinematography from Ricardo Rodríguez. The performances are actually very good, including Jimena Lindo's performance as Miranda. The powerful script and a clean work from Judith Vélez brings hope for peruvian cinema.

Interest and with visual beauty

La Prueba (The Test) tell us the story of Miranda, a woman with the ambition to find his lost father in order to save his brother because of his blood type. In the journey, she finds Saul who shows her all the natural and philosophical beauty that Arequipa (a Peruvian department)has, which let Miranda travel to he past to remember some facts that reveal her personality and the reason of why her father left all his family. With an excellent cinematography (the best I've ever seen in a Peruvian film), great performances and a very interesting plot with a realistic and surprising ending, La Prueba doesn't leave the audience with desires of wanting more and also shows that a Peruvian film doesn't need to have strong sexual and violent content to be good. A very capturing and emotional film, VAYAN A VERLA PERUANOS!
