Intro: Director Matthew Vaughn is known for making gangster movies and comic book adaptations. Producing Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and making his directorial debut with Layer Cake paved the way for bigger projects: Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, the Kingsman franchise, Argylle. But in between the gangsters and the over-the-top heroics, he decided to make a fairy tale. Based on the writing of popular author Neil Gaiman, the film tells of witches, unicorns, flying ships, lightning catchers, and a falling star… that’s actually a person. Released in 2007, the movie we’re talking about is called Stardust. And it’s time for it to be Revisited.
Set-up: The story of Stardust goes back to the early 1990s. While out driving one day, Neil Gaiman saw a wall running along one side of the road and was struck by the idea that a magical land called Faerie might exist on...

It might be fair to say that the James Bond role has always been elusive to Henry Cavill. After losing to Daniel Craig in 2006’s Casino Royale as he was too young and inexperienced, the actor is now being doubted to join the franchise because he’s already 40.

Johnny Flynn was murdered within a week of stepping onto the set of Ripley.
The British actor plays Dickie Greenleaf in the eight-episode Netflix adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley and while he knew the character would meet an untimely demise in the story, he wasn’t prepared for it to be within days of meeting Andrew Scott, who plays the title character.
“I was just getting to know Andrew and there he is bludgeoning me and cradling my dead body,” Flynn tells Rolling Stone. “It was a good icebreaker.

Have you ever wished that your favorite fictional character could actually exist and save the day? Well, for actor Alex Pettyfer, that wish seems to have been granted when his co-star, Henry Cavill, famously known as Superman, prevented him from “falling off a boat”. This near-death incident occurred on the set of their next film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which will hit theaters next month.
Although Cavill is sadly no longer DC’s Man of Steel due to James Gunn’s takeover, it appears that the British actor, 40, has adopted Superman’s valiant traits in real life. The upcoming Guy Ritchie film, based on Damien Lewis’s book of the same name, chronicles the experiences of the British organization (Special Operations Executive) during World War II.

It's been a good two years since Daniel Craig's swan song as James Bond, "No Time to Die" and its divisive ending debuted in theaters. But even before Craig's finale arrived, rumors continued to swirl that Henry Cavill was still in the running to take on the role following Craig's retirement. The "Man of Steel" actor had almost clinched the role back in the early 2000s when longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were casting for 2006's "Casino Royale." Unfortunately for Cavill, he just lost out to Craig -- who reinvigorated the franchise with a fresh take on England's greatest spy.

British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s helmed a gonzo fantasy with a cross-dressing Robert De Niro, a vigilante superhero flick with a foul-mouthed, killer kid, and a delirious spin on Bond with Colin Firth. When I think about Matthew Vaughn's directing career, the image that primarily comes to mind is that of a provocateur, a filmmaker who enjoys prodding his audience a little while bucking familiar conventions. He famously did that with "Kick-Ass" in 2010, doubled down on provocation with the "Kingsman" movies, and is poised to do it again with his latest spy film, "Argylle," which hits theaters today. He seems to prefer entering through the side door rather than taking a head-on approach, opting for more unorthodox methods of storytelling wherever possible.
But that wasn't always the case. 2007's "Stardust," Vaughn's second directorial feature, does not have the cultural reputation as some of his other films, but upon rewatch, it was surprising to see Vaughn operating in a more straightforward zone -- one that doesn't seem as desperate to push the envelope and is confident enough in the nuts and bolts...

Matthew Vaughn has revealed just how close Henry Cavill got to playing 007 in a new interview. More below.
Henry Cavill’s name has been circling James Bond from even before Daniel Craig hung up his suit and Speedos.
By now, it’s pretty common knowledge that the Man Of Steel and The Witcher star was officially in the conversation for who should replace Piers Brosnan back in the 2000s. Until now, though, it’s never been entirely clear how close he got.

In an interview with Sirius Xm to promote their new film, the comedy action-thriller Argylle, Vaughn revealed a few tidbits that might just have Barbara Broccoli grinding her teeth. Judging by his reaction, too, this seems to be news to Cavill himself.

What looks like diamonds but on closer inspection turns out to be little more than reams of cheap polyester? Why, argyle, of course — that preppy pattern found on socks and sweaters, and an apt name for the latest kooky spy caper from Matthew Vaughn. The erstwhile “Kick-Ass” director has been trapped in “Kingsman” mode for so long (going on a decade now) that it feels like we’ve lost him to that kind of live-action cartoon forever, cramming Gen Z James Bond riffs with disco music and outrageous greenscreen shenanigans.
“Argylle” boasts an entirely new set of characters, but sticks to Vaughn’s CG-exaggerated aesthetic as hacky spy novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) gets pulled into a scheme nearly identical to the one she described in her bestselling series of books. She invented a character called Agent Argylle who’s uncovered a secret division of rogue agents, creatively named the Division.

‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 8 Episode 12 Recap & Review: Zeenat Aman And Neetu Kapoor In Karan’s Show
The eleventh episode of the eighth season of this chat show had beautiful siblings, the daughters of the legendary Sridevi, Jahnvi Kapoor, and Khushi Kapoor. The episode was more about Jahnvi and Khushi dating lives than their professional goals as actors in the Hindi film industry. It was a lukewarm episode that did not generate much buzz. The new episode of the show features the two yesteryear divas of the Hindi film industry, Zeenat Aman and Neetu Kapoor. They graced the coffee couch, and the conversation with them was all about taking a trip down memory lane, and as Karan Johar stated, it would be a ‘Yaadon ki Baarat’.
What Happens In The Episode?
The episode began with Karan introducing the divas. Zeenat Aman in the 1970s was a trailblazer and a style icon. Meanwhile, Neetu Kapoor was a child star who went on to become one of the most...

Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" turns 34 this year. The movie itself spans more than three decades, chronicling Henry Hill's (Ray Liotta) life as an associate in the New York mob — Hill's life story was first told to the public by the nonfiction book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the "Goodfellas" script with Scorsese.
"Goodfellas" is a cinematic shot of adrenaline, cut with vivacious energy by Thelma Schoonmaker and scored with classic rock to reflect the anti-authority glamour of mid-20th century gangsters. No matter if you watch it in all its sprawling glory or just sample clips, it's enjoyable — nay, irresistible.
Since "Goodfellas" packs so many years into two-and-a-half hours, it has a huge cast. So much time has passed since "Goodfellas" premiered in theaters and left its mark on crime cinema that not all of these actors are still with us. Miraculously, though, quite a few of them...

Ninety-four songs and 149 scores have been deemed eligible in the music categories for the 96th annual Academy Awards, Variety has learned.
Voting began Thursday, with 390 members of the Academy music branch eligible to vote in this year’s competition. And for the first time in years, there appear to be no surprises or glaring omissions.
Any film can submit up to three songs, and the “Barbie” entries were as expected: Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made for,” Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and the Mark Ronson-Andrew Wyatt song “I’m Just Ken.”
Five other films submitted the maximum of three songs, including two from Disney: the live-action “The Little Mermaid,” with “For the First Time,” “The Scuttlebutt” and “Wild Uncharted Waters,” all by Alan Menken (who won Oscars for the original in 1989) and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and “Wish,” the Julia Michaels-Benjamin Rice tunes including “I’m a Star,...

Willie Nelson & Family, a documentary series about the country music icon from filmmakers Thom Zimny and Oren Moverman, is set to bow on Paramount+ on Dec. 21.
The career retrospective is creatively driven by directors Zimny and Moverman, both recent Emmy winners — Zimny for directing the variety special Springsteen on Broadway and Moverman for the TV movie Bad Education, starring Hugh Jackman.
Paramount+ acquired the documentary series, which recalls Nelson’s life and long career as an iconic country music singer-songwriter, after its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Nelson participated in the production and allowed Zimny — a frequent Bruce Springsteen collaborator — and Moverman access to his archives.
The four-parter is executive produced by Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan and is a production of MTV Entertainment Studios, in association with 101 Studios, Blackbird Presents Films and Sight Unseen. “Willie’s music formed the soundtrack of my youth. Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to spy movies. The iconoclastic genre filmmaker has already directed three Kingsman movies, and that came after having a brief flirtation with James Bond. Yet the filmmaker who’s also dabbled in fantasy (Stardust) and superheroes (Kick-Ass) is up to something extra mischievous with Argylle, his new 2024 action spectacle: he’s playing it for real. Kind of.
Set in a heightened world where Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard playing the allegedly real-life author of the Argylle novel) stops writing spy fiction, which includes Henry Cavill as her idealized agent Argylle and begins living it upon meeting a spook played by Sam Rockwell, Argylle sees Vaughn changing the game.
You’re a connoisseur of espionage and spy films. So what about Argylle appealed to you after doing three Kingsman movies?

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

As a filmmaker, Matthew Vaughn seems incapable of taking the material he's working with seriously. It's a quality that's allowed him to carve out a niche as a specialist in deliberately irreverent genre fare like "Stardust" and "Kick-Ass" but made him a bit of a poor match for "X-Men: First Class". It can also make his "Kingsman" films pretty polarizing since they allow him to double-dip on his juvenile humor to the point of self-indulgence. In fact, the one time Vaughn tried to play things seriously with that franchise, the result was the tonally bizarre prequel "The King's Man."
This is all to say that Vaughn's abandoned "Superman" trilogy always seemed like an odd proposition. As he's talked about on many occasions over the years, Vaughn and his "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman" cohort, writer Mark Millar, approached Warner Bros. in 2008 in the hopes of convincing the studio to sign off on...

Matthew Vaughn had big plans for a 'Stardust' sequel. The 52-year-old director was at the helm of the beloved 2007 fantasy adventure - which was based on Neil Gaiman's 1999 novel of the same name and starred the likes of Claire Danes, Charlie Cox and Ricky Gervais - and despite Paramount Pictures being put off by the box office performance, the filmmaker was keen to explore other ideas with those characters. He told Collider: "It was such a, you know this concept I’d done."The bottom line of it, you said you’re a big fan, it’s the death of Tristan and Yvaine, and he throws the necklace off, the necklace lands in 1960s London."So you have these crazy characters running around 1960s London but fitting in because it was a crazy time."He and the studio disagreed over how the original movie should be marketed,...

Matthew Vaughn is opening up about one of the reasons he had for quitting directing X-Men: The Last Stand. The director revealed during New York Comic Con he left the film after finding out a scheme to get Halle Berry to sign on to reprise her role of Storm by tricking her with a fake script.
“One of the main reasons I quit X-Men 3, and this is a true story. Hollywood is really political and odd,” he said during Nycc (via ScreenRant). “I went to an executive’s office and I saw an X3 script. It was a lot fatter. I asked, ‘What is this draft?’ They were like, ‘Don’t worry about it.'”
He continued, “So I grabbed it, and opened the first page, and it said, ‘Africa. Kids dying from no water, and Storm creates a thunderstorm to save all these children.’ I thought it was a pretty cool idea.

With this year’s New York Comic Con coming to a close, undoubtedly one of the biggest draws of the event was director Matthew Vaughn, who gave details on an upcoming Kick-Ass reboot, why he left X-Men: The Last Stand and his promising upcoming spy thriller Argylle.
In the wide-ranging Saturday panel that our own David Arroyo attended, Matthew Vaughn said that the Kick-Ass movies had such a positive impact on people that he thinks new characters are also worth exploring. “Kick-Ass sort of changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is at that time. So we’ll be doing it again. So it’s none of the characters from the other Kick-Ass…We’d like to bring them back after the reboot. This reboot is just going off on a tangent that I can’t really talk about now. But it’s fun.”

Film stars are in a kind of love-hate relationship with the media. That is to say, they love to use the media at their whim and convenience, but when the media needs to fill up space and need a star to talk to, they are unapproachable! This is the trait stars of this era have developed.

These last few years the Criterion Channel have made October viewing much easier to prioritize, and in the spirit of their ’70s and ’80s horror series we’ve graduated to––you guessed it––”’90s Horror.” A couple of obvious classics stand with cult favorites and more unknown entities (When a Stranger Calls Back and Def By Temptation are new to me). Three more series continue the trend: “Technothrillers” does what it says on the tin, courtesy the likes of eXistenZ and Demonlover; “Art-House Horror” is precisely the kind of place to host Cure, Suspiria, Onibaba; and “Pre-Code Horror” is a black-and-white dream. Phantom of the Paradise, Unfriended, and John Brahm’s The Lodger are added elsewhere.

Universal has just rolled out the much-anticipated official trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy comedy, ‘Argylle.’ This Apple Original project, crafted in collaboration with Marv, is set to hit global theaters next February. It’s a good four months early, but they’re generating buzz already!
Matthew Vaughn, who previously brought us edgy movies like the ‘Kingsman‘ series and ‘Kick-Ass,’ is the mastermind behind ‘Argylle.’ The film promises a delightful mix of sharp humor, thrilling spy sequences, and a dash of reality-altering plot twists. There's almost always some kind of fan outcry when the appearance of characters are changed when a work is adapted from one medium to another, and the depictions of the characters in Netflix's "The Witcher" were not immune. The Netflix series is based on the fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The novels have also been adapted into a popular video game series, giving some fans a predetermined idea of what the characters should look or sound like. Fans, especially gamers, can be extremely protective of their version of a particular canon, but it turns out that casting director Sophie Holland planned on pushing a few buttons when she put together the cast of "The Witcher."
In an interview with Variety, Holland explained that she was interested in challenging people's ideas about standards of beauty with her casting decisions, specifically regarding the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, played by Anya Chalotra.

The second David Bowie World Fan Convention hit New York in June, featuring some of David Bowie’s closest collaborators in music, film, and fashion. Vocalist, songwriter, model, and actor Ava Cherry sang on some of Bowie’s most transformative records, and changed his outlook on music, fashion, and nightlife. From 1974 to 1978, Cherry was one-third of Bowie’s vocal backing trio, appearing onstage, in the studio, and on all TV appearances. Cherry and Bowie’s relationship was even closer than that, beginning as lovers, and enduring as friends.
According to the autobiography All That Glitters, written by Cherry and Lisa Torem, Ava was raised in Chicago, taking a job at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion when she was 17 years old, before moving to New York and working at the nightclub Genesis. This is where she met Bowie, who asked her to provide backing vocals on an upcoming tour in Japan.
