I believe it was the Beatles who once said “all you need is Rafe Spall” or something to that effect anyway… I have made no secret of the fact that when I find an actor or actress I like, I will go out of my way to watch them. It is a select group though, the likes of your Paddy Considine, Stephen Graham, Vicky McClue, Tom Hardy, Joe Gilgun to name a few (notice these are all Brits). The type of leading actors that can let a whole scene play out over their faces and not say a great deal but have me on the edge of my seat having heart palpitations. Another such actor who has been on my radar for some time now, and...

Inner Circle’s “Bad Boys” — the unmistakable theme to the TV show “Cops,” which was pulled off the Paramount Network this week after more than 30 years on the air — amounts to a major novelty hit, but one with a long and interesting history behind it (as is so often the case with novelty hits). Its prominence and popularity are the result of an unusual series of events and circumstances which led to it becoming one of the reggae songs most beloved by non-Jamaicans.
Although based in Miami since the 1980s, Inner Circle started off in Jamaica in the late ‘60s as a group of young, middle-class musicians who would soon split off into two different entities, the other being the successful reggae group Third World. Self-contained bands like Inner Circle and Third World as recording artists have always been a relative rarity in Jamaica, where the norm is vocal groups...

YouTube’s “Cobra Kai” is full of flashbacks and callbacks to “The Karate Kid.” There is one perfect piece of audio nostalgia that hasn’t been implemented into the sequel series yet — and star/executive producer Ralph Macchio tells TheWrap it may never be.
“‘The Best Around’ is the one piece that the three writers always toy with, and it’s the one place they feel — to this point, now, who knows seasons down the line — to this point, it has been parodied and used so much that it would take you actually out of the show,” Macchio told us of the All-Valley Karate Tournament anthem. “Like, it is the line in the sand of when the nostalgia or the Easter eggs or the callbacks could go too far and hurt the fabric of the show.”
It won’t hurt to remember the classic Joe Esposito ditty during the classic ’80s-movie montage below.

Following a successful festival run, writer-director Rich Phelps has finally released his short film One Way or Another online for the world to see. The dark, neo-noir has been covered on these pages prior when we premiered the trailer back in October. Suffice it to say we've all been patient. Based on a true story, the nearly fourteen minute short sees two friends at a bar end up on a path neither expected when they are thrown into a violent showdown. With fine acting and a slick style punctuated by wonderfully noirish dialogue, One Way or Another, stands as a solid showcase for Phelps. We'll definitely be keeping our eyes on future work. The short stars Nick Palmieri, Ray Hopper, David S. Hogan and Joseph...

From A Memory Called Empire to Star Wars IX, here are all of the space operas, on screen and on the page, we're looking forward to in 2019.
Here at Den of Geek, we love a good space opera: that delightful subgenre of science fiction that combines action, adventure, romance, and melodrama and sets it all in space.
Between now and the end of 2019, fans of space opera have a lot to look forward to. Whether or not you're excited about the December 20, 2019 release of Star Wars Episode IX, the year should be a good one for space opera—especially for novel readers, but with a few films and comics thrown in for good measure.
Here are the space operas (and some stories that are space opera-adjacent) we've already consumed or are most looking forward to consuming at Den of Geek...

Babe.net, the site behind a story about comedian Aziz Ansari that set off a debate about consent and journalistic ethics, is for sale, according to an email from CEO Jack Rivlin obtained by TheWrap.
A fact sheet to potential buyers said Babe.net’s parent company, Tab Media, was “seeking a new owner who can take advantage of its large distribution, strong brand and reputation.”
Rivlin and a rep for Ansari did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap. Though the fact sheet said Babe.net’s owners closed it in December, it has has continued to publish some new content this year.

In her four years in film distribution, Alece Oxendine has grown accustomed to being the lone person of color in the room.
Oxendine told TheWrap that she was the only black person at Fandor, where she worked in marketing; the only black woman at Distribber, where she worked in digital distribution; and is the only black person at Good Deed Entertainment, where she now works in digital sales.
“Distribution is the last frontier of filmmaking,” Oxendine said. “Everyone is having these wonderful conversations about elevating more women filmmakers and filmmakers of color and helping them out in so many different ways, but the challenge is they are not being met with the support they need once the film is completed.”

Donald Trump Jr. accused Hollywood again of having a double standard for conservatives and liberals, using Roseanne Barr and Aziz Ansari as his latest example.
“I’m sure they’re chomping at the bit to give Rosanne and other conservatives a second chance… right? Yet another example of the rules only applying one way. At least they’re consistent. Take note,” Trump Jr. wrote on his Twitter account Monday.
