"AAAHH! REAL MONSTERS" (1995) was ahead of its time in some ways. For instance the feature allowing the player to alternate between three characters, who stick together throughout, and the individual abilities they have, not to mention that team moves can be initiated given the right parameters, are all quite revolutionary for the time.
The levels themselves are not brilliantly designed and the game is difficult from the outset. It can be quite a chore getting health, too, and seeing as it's easy to get hurt that's a problem. These are contributing factors to the game flopping.
The controls are often criticized but personally I have no problem with them. The music is good but quickly repetitive. And the game has a good look about it too.
