We've all been there

Very haunting short film about loneliness. Malcolm Gets stars as a man desperate for companionship. Seeking it in a bar, as we all know, is a mixed bag. In this case the object of his desire is an equally desperate drug addict. Every time Zeno asks for some new form of drug, that desperation builds until mistakes are made. Gets is always watchable, here he walks down a path many men can relate to. I felt so uncomfortable knowing Zeno needed to escape via some drug, eventually settling on poppers as his only means to get through the sex act, leaving Gets even more lonelier than before the experience. The painting of his dead lover watching the entire act was unnerving.

If you haven't seen Steve and Adam, (which Gets steals) you're a loser.

A failed attempt at artistry

Warning: Spoilers
"Little Boy Blues" is an American live action short film from 2005 in the English language, so this one is already almost 15 years old and it was written and directed by John McCrite back then, his first filmmaking effort according to imdb. It is basically a 2-people movie. Two men meet at a gay bar and end up home together where they have sex. That's all there is to this one really. Some dialogue writing and camera angles and motives were clearly intended to be deep and meaningful, but the talent is never there unfortunately from anybody involved, the filmmaker (at that point in his career) even less so than the actors. And looking at how seriously this film takes itself, it makes things even worse and feels extremely pretentious at times. I know that gay-themed movies frequently have a tendency to rely on the subject altogether because fans of these films tend to appreciate them for the subject alone, even if basically all other production values are several leagues below mediocrity. So can you really blame those who make these films? I am not sure. But I do know that it was really impossible to enjoy this one because it never felt as authentic or entertaining as I hoped it could be and frequently you have films where the director is a rookie that turn out surprisingly well, frequently better than everything he does afterwards, but here this one is what you'd generally expect: a filmmaker who (hopefully) was still far away from his peak when he began his career. Huge thumbs down from me. The film is as bad as the title suggests. Seemingly this one was even not good enough to be included on the long-running BoF collection series and if you knew some of the really bad films they picked and selected to promote, then you'll understand about this one here. Highly not recommended.
