Where Did He Go?
Only a few minutes of this Lige Conley harness racing comedy short from 1924 survive. You can look at the remnants on the Flicker Alley FRAGMENTS collection.
Conley was an obscure comic from the era. His look was that of an upscale Chaplin imitator and while he was certainly a competent performer and gagman -- he had a fine career behind the camera after his performing career ended -- he is certainly obscure to the modern audience. The reasons are fairly obvious; while he a lively utility performer, he was an aggregator of standard gags, rather than an innovator, and there doesn't seem to be much of a consistent, appealing character in the dozen or so of his shorts I have seen.
Nonetheless, if you have a chance to see the surviving segment of this film, you will find a nice set of gags and a generous attitude towards his fellow performers.
