Madrid – Sony Computer Entertainment Spain and Mediaset Spain will launch a game based on a popular Spanish animated archaeologist character mindful of Indiana Jones. The game starring the character, Tadeo Jones, will be available exclusively for the PlayStation Vita handheld gaming system in time for the holidays. The game follows the 2012 release of animated hit The Adventures of Tadeo Jones (known as Tad, the Lost Explorer in English), which became the highest-grossing animation release in the history of Spain. The 317 short films selected for the 2008 Palm Springs International ShortFest include movies directed by Kate Hudson ("Cutless"), Kirsten Dunst ("Welcome") and Matthew Modine ("I Think I Thought") and films narrated by Whoopi Goldberg ("The Descendant") and Robert Redford ("The New Environmentalists").
ShortFest, marking its 14th year, runs Aug. 21-27 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. Festival director Darryl Macdonald and film curator Kathleen McInnis have assembled 53 world premieres, 47 North American premieres and 24 U.S. Premieres, collected in 51 themed programs.
The opening-night screening on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. will be highlighted by award-winning films including "Life's Hard" (Romania), "Manon on the Asphalt" (France), "Procrastination" (U.K.), "Sikumi" (On the Ice) (U.S.), "Tadeo Jones and the Basement of Doom" (Spain) and "The Wednesdays" (Ireland).

- edro Almodóvar and Guillermo del Toro you can both breathe a sign of relief. Spanish cinema is rejuvenated. The split-screen/drama that was premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at last year's Cannes (I'm guilty for having fallen asleep to this one: victim of watching one too many films and not necessarily the film itself) has walked away from Spain's equivalent to the Oscar with top honors: Best Film and Best Director. Jaime Rosales' La Soledad (Solitary Fragments) (two parallel urban stories highlighting the fragility and simplicity of human existence) beat out the heavy favorite The Orphanage (the Picturehouse-released pic that investigates the power the dead have over the living, especially over children in the most imaginative and vulnerable stages).
