Interesting independent film worthy of viewing
tomtoday-121 June 2007
This film tells the story of a down and out man who is befriended by a young girl on a New Jersey beach. She is very young, and if not under age, naive in the ways typical of a young girl. She is also sensitive to what she perceives as a cry for connection of another soul. Initially, the vagrant wants nothing to do with her, but she persists and eventually gets him to reach back and establish the connection. Parents are more than a little upset by the liaison. The filmmaker does a great job of bringing out this tension, delving into the man's demons and resolving the relationship in a pleasing way. I enjoyed the film and recommend it to anyone seeking a movie that does more than follow the usual Hollywood formula of explicit sex and violence to tell the story.

Good movie
rudderpostfilms22 June 2007
This is a very well-made film. Lumiere manages to capture the emotional struggles of each of these characters with seeming ease of his craft. Hefti delivers solid written material for the team to play from, and the cast understands the story as both individuals and cohesive unit members. The feel of this film is consistent throughout, and we found ourselves concerned and hopeful for the main players...

Excellent performances by Taylor-Compton, Hefti, Draper, and Ken Arnold, strong and a compelling storyline made this an extremely enjoyable film to watch.

Good luck, guys!!!! Rudderpost Films Staff

It stays with you and leaves you thinking
santorico10 October 2006
I saw "Tomorrow is Today" at the Westwood Film Festival. There were a lot of Films being shown. This one However, stood out. It was touching and thoughtful and very direct. Nothing seemed forced or fake. It was an honest portrait for us to see and experience. This movie is one of those that stays with you. I found myself thinking about it for days after seeing it. I liked the movie when I saw it. I thought is was beautifully shot. Well directed and edited and well written. But the kicker is The movie got much better two days after I saw it when I realized the story and performances were still with me and I was still thinking about the movies themes and messages. I love that. GREAT JOB!

Life Changing!
HenryIV23 July 2006
I had the privilege of seeing a private screening of the film tonight.

I went to see it with a date and let me tell you... I hate to cry at the movies and in fact, I don't very much but this one really got to me.

I left the theater and had to tell my date that I didn't feel well and went into my car and started balling. This has never happened to me before, I don't consider myself a softy at all much the contrary.

This film is filled with poetry and powerful performances. This is a story I will never forget and filmmakers I am SURE I will see again. There is a lot of wisdom and insightful messages in this story.

The cinematography was breathtaking especially since I learned it was done on a minuscule budget (The director wouldn't say exactly how much). But I think this film could change the industry. It proves that you can deliver incredible production quality on an Indie budget. Although the images were beautiful, it really delivers on story and performances.

Mark Hefti went through a striking transformation during the film. He becomes a different person physically and in his demeanor. I knew he wrote the script before I watch it so it added a lot of meaning behind the messages. Well done!

Scout Taylor-Compton is unbelievable. What a hottie. She has so much charm on screen. You can't help but fall in love with the girl.

I promised in a signed statement not to reveal any plot points so unfortunately I can't talk about the story but all I can say is that this film is going to do very well. The director mentioned that it will be in some big festivals and I wouldn't be surprised if it became a festival favorite.

Thanks for this film guys.

Henry

touching in every level
jasmineh0511 October 2006
The movie is different from all the other Hollywood movies in an extremely beautiful way. It makes you love life and realize that bad things happen to all, even a sweet and innocent girl, but life goes on and for the sake of the loved ones that you lost you must go on and live life to the fullest. The movie was very touching, made me cry, yet the unexpected funny parts made it more real and natural. I loved all the characters, the script and the ending...the ending couldn't have been written any better. Although there isn't much action in the movie, it passed by so fast. The audience is constatnly being surprised by an addition of a new plot...ex: the police officers life, the liquir stores owners life, the life of Muriel's daughter and the teenager's parents. All these characters had lost something great, but they all live life because they have each other, because they have sholders to cry on, because they have one another to lean on, or simply because they have to be strong for the others. LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Hollywood is long overdue for a movie like this.

Tomorrow is Today is Film Making at it's Finest.
milenaj-14 June 2007
First, I must apologize if my comment comes off as too over the top. But how I feel about this movie is something I can not tone down! Tomorrow is Today is Film making at it's finest. I happened upon this film, through my membership to the Spiritual Cinema Circle, and I was blown away. It pulled me in and rocked me to the core. The beautiful, poetic, inspiring way this devastatingly heart wrenching story is told is amazing. The writing, direction, acting, cinematography--everything, is so powerfully moving there really are no words to describe it. I love a good cry, and that's just what this film evokes: a GOOD cry. For inter-weaved with the heartache & pain is hope, courage, and soul stirring inspiration. This movie has the biggest heart of any I've ever seen. I TRULY hope to one day see it on the big screen, because that is exactly where it belongs. Tomorrow is Today is a first-rate film that everyone should have the opportunity to experience.

A real love story.
juliet548120 August 2006
I saw this film last week at it's world premiere at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. I was so moved by the amazing writing, acting and of course, directing. I haven't seen a film so well done as this one in a long time, independent or mainstream. There was not one character that you couldn't relate to or empathize with. Usually I am only able to find one, maybe two characters to like in a good script, but Mark Hefti's innovative writing along with Frederic Lumiere's dynamic direction helped me connect with every single character. After watching this film, I stepped out of the theater for some fresh air and then returned to catch a brief portion of their Q & A. Again I had to leave because I was so moved by all aspects of this story. Tomorrow is Today was the perfect title to such a fantastic film. This movie has restored my faith in finding love after loss and heartbreak. This is a must see by film lovers everywhere.

Great Film
supergetz25 July 2006
My friends and I are putting on a film fest here in my hometown and I'm on the prescreening committee so I got to be one of the chosen few to decide if we wanted it in the fest. I was kinda taken a-back at first because of the film being a "chick flick" but by the end of the movie I was hooked! The writer Mark Hefti does an amazing job of sucking you into the story! Making a few I immediately told my friend "Beg Frederic Haubrich to come to Iris!" The movie didn't have any huge Hollywood names in it, no over the top special effects, or no big Hollywood budget but it was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. I recommend that if you get the chance go and watch this movie. I swear "on the eyes of my grandchildren" you will not be disappointed. Scout Taylor-Compton puts in a pretty awesome performance as Julie. The girl had me in tears by the end of the film...seriously I'm 6' 280lbs and I was sobbing like a little girl with a skinned knee! No joke man I had to hide my face so my friend wouldn't make fun of me. Anyway I just wanted to give one last praise to Mark Hefti and Frederic Haubrich for making an awesome film and for coming to a couple of young movie lovers tiny town to talk at an even smaller film fest. You guys are awesome!!!

wise movie
jmusika31 August 2006
Beautifully filmed and wonderfully written. So much wisdom! So inspiring it moved me to tears. Each of the characters were believably human with all their imperfections and selfishness while having underlying good hearts. This film conveys the reality of good will humans have for each other. The writing was rich, yet natural for the characters. I was informed that the entire movie was filmed using 1 (one) $4,ooo Sony camera, filmed in 16 days! So inspiring to see what can be done with a small budget... convinces me that movie making should be viewed in it's art form. I'm a musician who greatly enjoys seeing something done artistically. Really glad that this film came to the festival in Montreal. I hope to see it again! Amazing, dedicated talent.

This movie really touched me
serenagreening20 August 2006
I was as moved by this film as I was by "Love Story". The real life experiences touched me greatly. Superb acting by the entire cast produced a first rate film. The camera work was fabulous as was the editing and directing. I really felt captured by the emotion of the events and could relate to the various twists and turns. The casting was really superb. All the actors were well suited for their roles. Several succeeded in making me dislike them and a few really tugged at my heart strings. I was particularly moved by Scout Taylor-Compton's youthfulness and her naive approach to major drama. Mark Hefti played his drifter role with a candor that makes the role believable.

Excellent
cawane16 May 2007
I found this movie through the Spiritual Cinema Circle. Spiritual Cinema Circle movies are the types of films I wish were playing every week at the move theater. This movie is one I would love to see on a big screen. Tomorrow is Today movie is one of Spiritual Cinemas best! The story was wonderful, the characters full of depth, you really get to know them and long for each of them to find peace. All of the actors are impressive, I'd like to see them in more films. So the film overall was refreshing in comparison to the movies in theaters and inspiring - that is what I'd like to see more of in Hollywood, good acting together with inspiring, heart felt stories... Thank you thank you, please make more!

A "Hidden Jewel"
spieden21 June 2007
I was encouraged to see this film by a close friend who always seems to find "hidden jewels". I'm glad I did.

This is the kind of film that should find its way into everyone's home. It is a heartfelt story about someone who suffers loss to the limit of human capacity and how the hand of another can alter the course of life.

The overall look of the film matches the feel of the story. It is well written, well directed and the acting is surprisingly good.

I think that this film can be an example to the budget conscious Indie filmmaker. A meaningful story with great acting and directing can produce results like this. You don't need a $60M studio budget to move your viewers.

This is a must see.

I cried and smiled at the same time
oshingurl-121 June 2007
I couldn't believe that an independent film shot where I live in a small NJ town could make me so emotional. A beautiful film.... The emotion driven from the camera combined with the music brought the character's to life. I left the theater smiling after crying and crying. I saw parts of my own personal joy and sadness rolled into Julie A great lesson learned from the story of a young girl not to be missed hope the film will get the recognition it deserves makes you cry and makes you think how much impact we can have on each other with our ability to care and to give people hope . not to be missed so go with your tissues and feel something at the movies for a change....

loved it!
Boutros21 June 2007
It isn't often that you can watch a movie these days that is truly "heart warming." Tomorrow is Today involves thought, compassion, and love... It made me think, it kind of made me cry (though I won't tell anyone) and it certainly left me with a good feeling about life! Lumiere is an extremely talented director and Hefti gives a beautiful performance... Scout Taylor-Compton is obviously doing well for a reason! The sets were awesome... I liked how barren and isolated the beach scenes were... If a young girl can be someones savior it kind of makes us question who we as adults should be lending a hand to. Good job guys!!!

A Great Film
dcole234512 May 2007
I loved this movie. It's a great story and it really made me think about what's important in life. Not your typical Hollywood fluff. Interesting characters working their way through life and finding hope and love in unexpected places and situations. It reminded me of some of the amazing people I've met in my life and how they helped me through the difficult times I've experienced. It also made me realize that most of the things I worry about are not as important as I make them out to be. Amazing things are going on all around me but I'm missing it, not noticing and not participating, because I'm so preoccupied with myself and my hopes and fears. A good movie is entertaining. A great movie is entertaining and changes your perspective on things. This is a great movie. I wish there were more movies being made like this. We are all connected. Thanks for making this film!

Tomorrow is Today will be remembered for many todays and tomorrows.
brenda51521 June 2007
This is a truly heartwarming movie that shows us all about overcoming and that we can face some things in life that seem hopeless. Grief, lossand healing are blended in such a way that compassion rules. I thought the acting was tremendous. The character Julie was extremely believable, and Greg was devastatingly real in his portrayal of his troubled life and times. I left feeling I'd just had a wonderful gift in being able to watch Tomorrow is Today. The dialog is beautifully written, and the actors, who are until now to me unknown talent, put their heart and soul into it. The scenery and settings were effective too, and the cinematography really good. Everyone involved in the movie should be very very proud, because it is a real winner. Thanks to all of them for creating it.

Great picture, emotional, lovely photography, very good acting
rcgreening21 June 2007
I really enjoyed this movie because the characters and plots not only maintained my interest but made me feel as though I was witnessing a moving series of events that culminated in a sad, realistic and surprising ending. It clearly is a "tear jerker" but I would not classify it a "chick flick". The acting is outstanding. In fact the casting enhanced the movie by matching the actors so well to their characters. The photography of the New Jersey shore is stunningly beautiful. And the film's direction is clear and crisp. I particularly liked the delicate handling of the "older" man and teenage girl. In fact, this movie proves you can have wholesome attraction and interaction between a man and a girl without blatant sex.

Fantastic and moving
AlanWeissMD21 June 2007
This movie generously portrays the depth of the human spirit and what is possible when one human being moves beyond what is expected of them and fulfills on what is possible for them.

The acting is well done and the cinematography aptly captures the moods and spaces that each of the characters moves through on their way to the gripping finish.

Though I have not seen work from most of these actors before and the director is new to me, I can only see bright futures for all of them.

My only problem with the movie is the attempt to trivialize some aspects of the class struggle looming just beneath the surface in our society.

A young girl refuses to give up on a mysterious man in her beachside community.
Betsi-Freeman15 February 2007
I loved this movie. I was very surprised by all the well-developed characters. None of the emotions seemed forced. The acting was incredible, and I loved the faith of the main character. I got to see a screening in Westwood, followed by a Q&A with the director and some of the actors. I was invited by a co-worker to the screening, and was very happy I took time out of my weekend to see it, because it was uplifting and realistic in tone, and seemed to focus on redemption and forgiveness. I very rarely take the time to comment on a movie, but this is a gem that I hope won't be overlooked, featuring performances and well-crafted scenes that shouldn't be missed.

Worth the time!
Djf01121 June 2007
I saw this film at the Annapolis Film Festival in 2006. It was very well acted, directed, and shot. It's amazing to me that films like this don't seem to find their way to audiences, while there are 800 sequels coming out each year...and countless retreads of 70's and 80's TV shows. It's amazing what Frederic Lumiere has done on an independent budget. I'd like to see what he could do with Fox or Warner or Dreamworks backing him! And the cast was excellent. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Scout Taylor-Compton in the coming years. I also enjoyed the performance of Ken Arnold, who played her father. Very subtle and understated. Great work. Great film. Thank you.

Great story, well told!
gnattress21 June 2007
I saw Tomorrow is Today at one of it's premieres in LA. I didn't quite know what to expect, but very soon I was totally engaged into the drama.

The story was well written, and although you could say it's a romance, it's really a drama that happens to have romantic elements in it's plot. The drama is very human and feels real, which is much helped by the superb location filming on the New Jersey coast.

I also think that the drama, acting and direction have more than enough depth to provide for enjoyment over multiple viewings and I can't wait to see this movie again.

Super!

Warning: Spoilers
"Tomorrow is Today" is just a really nice story with characters who defy expectation. Well, I shouldn't say "just." When the credits rolled on "Tomorrow is Today" for the first time, I was left wondering what happened to the wicked step-mom, brute sheriff, psycho stranger and punk love rival that I "just knew" were in that movie somewhere.

Repeated viewings only left me with more respect for the production.

I'll admit that I can be one of those "I told ya so" types where movies are concerned, but in this case I enjoyed watching my expectations defeated over and over again. That was impressive.

Maybe that's why I like it so much – the relationship between this movie and this viewer was like two adversaries swinging punches then realizing: hey, I'm cool, you're cool – let's be pals. Of course, this movie didn't even have one of those clichés, even though I "just knew" it coming.

It was also a relief to see some straight-forward story-telling, where I could sit back and take in the film's lessons on love, family, friendship and its other observations on the human condition, without my brain having to dodge explosions, bad jokes, CGI critters, product placement, etc. etc. etc. It seems these days I've been standing in the ticket line for a whole lot of etc. etc. etc.

"Tomorrow is Today" is a nice reminder that it's OK to try out something simple on that great big screen, letting the story, and the characters who inhabit it, work things out for themselves without the disappointments I've come to expect getting in the way.

Surprisingly Good!
jordanchurchwell6 June 2007
OK, this is not my typical genre, but my friend's mom made us watch this movie with her, and it was actually really good. It's not some fluffy chick flick. It seems realistic. Really good acting. The story kind of pulls you in. I can't believe this, but I loved it! Plus, Scout is hot. I would recommend it to anyone. I think it's a very human story, that most people will dig. There is so much pain that most people deal with at one time or another in life. This story shows how the various characters deal with the pain, and with what results. It has pretty sad moments, but there are also some funny parts, and at the end, it leaves you feeling strangely good. It just sucks that there's no where to get it right now.

An Amazing Film
flicksart20 August 2006
When I first saw the screener for Tomorrow is Today, I knew that I had an exceptional film on my hands. I immediately set up a special screening for our festival program committee and the film was quickly accepted into the 10th Anniversary of the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film had its World Premiere at RIIFF.

This is a powerful and moving motion picture that is exceptionally well-constructed and written. Kudos to the director, writer and cast for a film that did not leave a a dry in the house with its premiere presentation. I have heard repeatedly how powerful the film was from those who attended (not a surprise as I witnessed those leaving--most of whom sat through the end credits.) As the film begins its festival journey we here at the Rhode Island International Film Festival are proud to have presented the first screening of such an extraordinary film.

This is a brilliant, empowering film on many levels.
deym14 August 2006
I just saw this film at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was moved on all levels. This is a powerful, edifying, memorable film. It develops the characters in such an intelligent way that one becomes completely involved and tied to their future, and when tragedy happens, it happens to you. It grabs and does not let go and it is a wonderful ride.

The emotions are thus linked, but wait, it also happens on a physical level with the poetic scenery and sounds, as well as on the intellectual and spiritual levels: for the film takes the concept of loss, and has us grow with it, benefit from it. Loss, no matter how devastating, is not without meaning, purpose. This is the unifying concept that makes this film hang together; the invisible part of the visible is threaded masterfully through it, and offers much wisdom.

This is romantic on a grand scale: a needed and balanced dance between realism and transcendentalism that brushes off existentialist ideology as it if was a drop of rain on one's shoulder by injecting the positive context of a greater psychological and philosophical vision. Yet there are no lectures – there is no preaching.

I cried several times! So did everyone in the theater. An older man sitting in the seat in front of me at the end of the film rose to stop and wipe his glasses and eyes before starting up the isle. Yet I did not feel disturbed by this film, only elated and peaceful. This film is a gifted creation and a gift to all. A must see! I was the winner this year of the Scriptbiz contest at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, where you had to compose an original script within their established limits and backdrop, and then present it to 5 judges. I am a follower of philosophy and science, a poet, a painter and writer. Google my name and check out my work, the vast experience with which I recommend this film.
