Sex & Nudity

  • A young woman was abused by her father in the past. In one scene, she uses crude language to refer to this.
  • An elderly woman's homosexuality is a prominent theme of the film. Flashbacks of her kissing another woman are shown. In one scene, she refers to herself as a "stupid lesbian".
  • A man and a woman kiss passionately, but are interrupted by an elderly woman.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman wakes up and sees that her cellmate hanged herself. Only her dangling legs are shown.
  • A woman viciously attacks a man. She smashes his fingers with a piano desk. Their fight continues off-screen. The man is later shown with a collar, implying the woman broke his neck, and scars on his face. He vows to kick the woman's head in when he gets better.
  • A woman punches a mirror. It breaks and the woman's hand bleeds. The wound can be seen in later scenes.
  • A man points a gun at a woman's head. They are interrupted before he can shoot her.
  • A woman attempts to commit suicide by running into a window, but the glass doesn't break. She later says she's tried it before, and she knew she wasn't going to die.
  • A woman is bullied by her cellmates. In one scene, the woman's hand is tied to her bedpost with a piece of cloth and the cloth is set on fire. The woman wakes up just as her hand begins to burn and attacks the other woman, who is hospitalized after the attack. No wounds or burns are shown.
  • A man's leg is amputated without narcosis. Blood squirts from his leg stump and he screams in pain and terror.
  • A woman has a violent fit and smashes a bottle.

Profanity

  • A young woman curses a lot. "Fuck" is used in a sexual matter once, other profanities include "fuck off", "dumb whore" etc. Some derogatory remarks about homosexuals are used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Almost none. A woman smokes a cigarette in one scene. A man drinks a strong alcoholic drink from a bottle. A woman states she doesn't drink, but she is shown consuming alcohol in two scenes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film is very dark and its main themes include violence (physical and psychological) and abuse.
  • A woman is taunted by fellow inmates and guards in many scenes, which are intense, but not frightening.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman's hair is cut and it is implied she is about to be executed. However, the place of her execution is bombed. We see dust and smoke and a burning guillotine. It is later revealed that she was hanged by the Nazis. We see her entire body hanging from a short rope.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The scene where a woman discovers her lover has been executed and the amputation scene are quite intense and disturbing.
