How is it that each individual show over seven seasons is rated 8.0+ on IMDB (except one, episode 11 in Season 4E, rated at 7.9) but the whole show is cumulatively rated at 7.9 ?
People rate the show as a whole and the individual episodes separately. The show's rating is not an average of the individual episode ratings.
Edit
Why is the show ending?
The decision was made by Kyra Sedgewick. She wanted to stretch her acting muscles in other roles and wanted the show to end while it was still on top. She struggled with the decision for a year before making it so.
