Desi Tries Drama

Warning: Spoilers
Desi Arnaz drafts Rory Calhoun to play hero Mark Dunne in this pilot drama action adventure. While the effort is OK, it is too much like other shows in this era to get enough traction for a series. This one pilot though is a decent enough effort.

A man (Martin Milner) deliberately causes a disaster at sea by blowing up a ship to try and cover up his stolen jewelry he has stashed on board. The jewelry washes up on a beach along with some questions about the disaster and 1 other survivor. Milner has to try and murder the survivor in order to not have them make the connection with him and the jewels.

The thing is Dunne looking at the evidence of the wreck finds things he suspects Eric (Milner) did to deliberately cause the disaster. The version of this I saw had all the original network commercials and the NBC Peacock from when it was originally shown on TV. Wilbur Hatch and the orchestra do the music for Desi as usual here.

Watch for a 17 year old Morgan Brittany (pre-Dallas) in a small role in this pilot. It is a detective type show typical of 1968. There is one fight sequence at the climax between Calhoun & Milner.
