Clever idea but needed a fuller finish
In extreme close up on specific parts of her body (no) an Asian woman performs a traditional dance while a song is performed. Gradually we pull back to see who our subject is and hold close on her face. With Bollywood and Asian culture being quite fashionable at the moment in the UK it is no surprise to see this short film greenlit as part of a funding package of short films, however I must admit that it wasn't as clever as it seems to think it is.
The dance itself is reasonably good and it is pretty clever to focus in on hands and feet to highlight the movements made by each, but it doesn't totally work. It comes off rather static and uninteresting as you never get the sense for the movement as a whole and it is a little annoying to be limited to an arched foot for several shots, even if the hands deserve a close up or two. The film pulls out to the face of the dancer for some reason, but really I would have preferred if it had pulled back to show the movements all together.
Overall this is an OK film that is a clever idea but not one that it pulls off. At under five minutes, it is worth seeing but could have had a better conclusion.
