James A. Fitzpatrick sends Winton Hoch to the capital of Denmark to shoot some pretty Technicolor pictures. Then, back in the studio, he offers his usual collection of random facts. With there being one bicycle for every three people, he neglects to say something about the city in the title of this Traveltalk. I see the town is nicknamed 'City of Spires'. Not many of those are on display, what with shots of the flower market and the statue of the Little Mermaid.

Which it doesn't need. The copy of this travelogue that plays on Turner Classic Movies is in very good condition. It's a pleasure to look at.

Copenhagen (1937)

Another good entry in James A. FitzPatrick's TravelTalks series. This one here takes us to Copenhagen where we learn that it's the largest city in Northern Europe and that most of the descendent's were Vikings. From here we learn about the fishing and flower industries as well as the "open air lifestyle" the government asks for, which is basically just meaning for people to get out and enjoy the air. From here we see the legendary mermaid statue based around Hans Christian Anderson. Finally, the big selling point of this short is seeing all the bicycles and how they're the main transportation throughout the city. We learn that there's one bike for every three people and that the bikes have full control of the streets. In fact, the cars really seem out of place and at times it's hilarious watching the people on bicycles cut off the cars without any hesitation. This here is certainly one of the better entries in the series.
