The film's title was provided by actress Molly Steele. During photography of the classroom sequence Steele explained her prior employment selling oxygen. Steele was later seen on TV's North Shore.
Won the award for Most Entertaining film at the Reel Loud Film Festival at UC Santa Barbara where it was shown as a work in progress in June 1997. Multimedia artist Cam L provided live sonic accompaniment under the name Blist Out. Volok later moved to NYC for a short period during which he saved the negative to Oxygen and other films from an apartment fire; nearly dying in the process. Oxygen was finally completed in Fall of 2004 when funding became available. it is currently making the festival circuit and is available in a limited edition DVD.
