Arcade Fire have finally lifted the veil on their new single "Reflektor" which -- if you're any fan of their more dance-happy, disco-laden songs like "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" and "Half Light II (No Celebration)" from their last album "The Suburbs" -- will make you pretty happy. It's more than seven minutes of what most definitely sounds like one of their collaborations with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, who co-produced the new album. This title track additionally gets the enhancement of two new music videos, one standard directed by Anton Corbijn and one interactive through some geniuses at Google Chrome with director Vincent Morisset....

Here’s your first look at the cast of “Grudge” director Takashi Shimizu’s new English-language horror film “7500″ (formerly “Flight 7500″), about supernatural shenanigans befalling the passengers of a doomed plane crossing the Pacific Ocean from L.A. to Tokyo. The film is described as “a haunted house movie on an airplane”. So I guess when you hear things going bump in the night, it’s time to grab the parachute. The film stars Jamie Chung (“Sucker Punch”), Nicky Whelan, Amy Smart, Leslie Bibb, Ryan Kwanten, Scout Taylor-Compton, Johnathon Schaech, Christian Serratos, and Jerry Ferrara. The script is from Craig Rosenberg, who has written supernatural flicks “The Uninvited” (the American remake) and “Half Light”, which he also directed. “7500″ is scheduled to take off into the unfriendly skies August 31,...

Is it possible for a film to arrive at a time that’s emotionally inconvenient?
That’s the question I’m pondering as I sit here, having just watched Spike Jonze‘s collaboration with Arcade Fire, the short film Scenes from the Suburbs. This needs to be established upfront: I’m what you would call a younger fellow. As of this writing, in fact, I graduated from high school two days ago, and got back from two graduation parties right before I sat down and watched this. At said parties were a few of my best friends, some of whom I’ve known since I was five or six. In about two months, I’ll be going off to college, living somewhere different, and meeting new people.
I’ve recently been asking myself a question I don’t want to face: Am I going to see these people after I go away?...

Another year, another Oscars – this time around, there seems to be an all-around consensus that it was a pretty dull affair this year. So we won’t take oo much of your time explaining why before we dive into a bit of Mike Leigh, whose Another Year was a nominee for its original screenplay. We’ll also be talking about his very dark 1993 picture Naked, starring the inimitable David Thewlis.

Your Weekly Pop Culture Mandate Five things you must not miss this week, including Arcade Fire, The Other Guys, and a new album from stars of the ‘80s, Squeeze. By Ray Rahman MUSICThe Suburbs, Arcade Fire Whatever your opinion on Arcade Fire (and you almost certainly have one), it's hard to deny Funeral's impact on last decade’s indie rock. That 2004 debut album felt new and exciting, offering a grandiose, unaffected sound very unlike the self-conscious post-punk bands that dominated the scene. The Suburbs is as sweeping and nostalgic (that title!) as the band’s previous two efforts, and it finds the group's fondness for U2-style arena rock intact (listen to “Half Light II: No Celebration”). Don’t be discouraged by the hype or the fact that every other band sounds like them now — if you liked them [...]...

Screen beauty Demi Moore paid for the crew of her latest movie to get drunk - and then gave them the following day off. The 41-year-old actress's upcoming film Half Light has been blighted by bad weather since shooting started on the Welsh island Ynys Llandwynn last week. And generous Moore provided thirsty crew members with 20 crates of beer. One says, "It was a terrific gesture by Demi. It has been a tough week for everyone - it was wet and windy all week and we had a lot of trouble keeping the sets from blowing away. But the beers were flowing until the early hours of the morning and most of the crew had hangovers on Saturday. It gave us a lift and now we are ready for the second week of filming."...
