The Naked Feminist
Scarecrow-8818 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Enlightening documentary featuring interviews from female stars prominent in the hardcore porn industry in the 70's and 80's such as Sharon Mitchell, Nina Hartley, and Veronica Hart, not to mention we hear from feminists and other voices both for and against the industry, all sorts of opinions and views dissecting the industry. What I like about this documentary is that the points of view come almost entirely from women, their perspectives on sex, the treatment of women in the industry, how they are presented and misrepresented on screen, and other topics about pornography. There's an openness and candidness I found illuminating. I think "The Naked Feminist" would be of great interest to those who always wondered what it is to understand the psychology of female performers. Also, the documentary comments on the new age of porn, the many changes in the industry, the evolution in how women are actually treated worse in film more than ever before. There's an honesty by all involved which many might be quite attentive to. Since this documentary is about a sex industry, there is plenty of content unsuitable for those who find pornography objectionable. The dialogue is sexually explicit as our interview subjects speak without restraint and share in word to the viewer in regards to the topic of pornography and the acts within the films. Bottom line, "The Naked Feminist" is for an audience who doesn't find the industry completely repulsive.
