Monkeys' Blood is a gentle, affectionate moving account of an exceptional day in a child's life. It beautifully describes the reality of the adult world and the child's perspective of it, and also the place where, at the end of one's life, our second childhood, these two worlds meld. The relationship between the child and the old man is quiet and moving - innocence and experience. I loved it. I saw it first at the Galway Film Festival and again recently (by complete fluke) when I met the writer on set of her current short 'RUBY XXX'.
Monkeys' Blood is one of those films that stays with you. Adrian Dunbar's sensitive direction was all that I love (and more) about Loach, Boorman and Lean. I found it hard to believe this was his directing debut. Amazing!
